Oracle Proxy Server brings another dimension to the range of products being
provided by Oracle for the Inter/Intranet markets. If you want fast access
to
the net, Oracle Proxy Server is the solution for you. A fully functional
caching proxy server can speed up access times dramatically by caching
frequently accessed documents in local storage, alleviating the need to
retrieve them from the outside world.
Not only does Oracle Proxy Server provide you with speed, it provides you
with
the ability to block accesses to sites on the net that might contain
information that offends. This content filtering is enabled through an
administrator supplied list of explicit site exclusions as well as the
popular
Surfwatch filters which contain a large list of sites that has been rated as
having sexual, violent, drug related or gambling content.
Some of the key features of Oracle Proxy Server are:
CACHING
o In-memory caching storage is used.
o File-system caching supported.
o Distributed caching where a proxy server can participate in a distributed
caching scheme with other Oracle Proxy Servers.
LOGGING
o Support multiple log files such as error, information, and filter log files.
o Error Log File - Logs error messages generated by the server for problems
encountered. There is one error log file for all ports.
o Information log files - Logs HTTP, FTP and Gopher transactions in common
or extended log formats. Each port has its own information log file.
o Filter log file - Maintains blocked accesses.
NETWORK
o Allows the addition of HTTP or SOCKS proxy between Oracle Proxy Server and
the Internet.
o Allows connections to a SOCKS proxy.
SECURITY
o SSL tunneling - Supports SSL tunneling for encrypted communication between
clients and origin servers.
o SSL proxying - For clients which do not support SSL, the proxy server will
encrypt and decrypt data on the client's behalf.
SCHEDULE
The Oracle Proxy Server will be shipping in Mid June on the base Unix
platforms. The NT product will follow shortly after.
