INTERNET EXPLORER 4.0 PLATFORM PREVIEW IS HERE
Internet Explorer 4.0 provides innovative new technology
that developers can use to increase interactivity and
excitement for customers -- without slowing down server
performance. Developers can also create
entirely new types of software that take advantage of
Internet functionality on the PC or deliver custom
information directly to users' desktops, as well as rich,
line-of-business applications that draw on both the
Internet and the enterprise so businesses can make better
decisions. It will be available for download at 6:00 AM,
Pacific Daylight Time. For more information, please go to

.asp. We are expecting very high traffic during this
period, so if you don't get through the first time, I am
sorry to say that you will have to try again. Microsoft
has made every effort to put all it's web resources
available for you during this spiked traffic time.
IE 4.0 PLATFORM PREVIEW CD-ROM
Don't want to download a 20 MB file? (Yes, you read
correctly - 20MB!) Internet Explorer 4.0 Platform with
SDK Preview CD-ROM will be distributed to all Site Builder
Network level 1, 2 and 3 members in the USA and Canada
(don't worry - keep reading if you don't fall into this
category!) beginning the week of April 21. (SDK is
another 50 - 75MB download and will be available at the
site around April 14.) There will be no charge to you and
we will be sending a CD to all Level 1, 2 and 3 members
who were accepted before April 21, 1997. New members
accepted after that will receive the CD as long as
supplies last. Please be sure your shipping address is
correct by going to
http://www.microsoft.com/sbnmember/apply/apply.asp and
clicking "Change Your Registration." We will be unable
to handle change of addresses through e-mail. You should
be seeing your CD within 2 weeks. For the whole scoop, go

.asp. Please try to hold back on sending e-mail questions
to us before checking the site, as we are expecting a very
high volume of mail, and you may not hear back from us for
about a week.
INTERNATIONAL MEMBERS (levels 1, 2 and 3) will be
receiving localized versions of the Platform Preview.
Unfortunately, we will be unable to accommodate US
versions internationally. Please check

available. Please note, that checking this site will
probably be faster than sending e-mail to us, as we are
expecting high volumes of mail during this period.
GUEST MEMBERS in the United States and Canada will be able
to order a IE4.0 Platform with SDK CD. You will be
charged a $5.00 shipping and handling fee. Please call

WARNING: The Platform Preview of Internet Explorer 4.0 is
a developers-only release. It is intended to provide an
advance look for software developers and other computer-
industry professionals, and not as anyone's primary work
browser. In keeping with normal software-industry
practice, some features of the final product are still
incomplete, and the product as a whole is still in the
testing phase, so some existing Web sites will not display
properly using this preview, and many characteristics of
scripting, HTML coding, appearance, and operation are
subject to change.
As with all preview and beta releases, Microsoft does not
provide any support for the Platform Preview of Internet
Explorer 4.0. For online support options, visit the
Internet Explorer Support Center when it is available.
Microsoft assumes no responsibility for any damages that

Impatient while you are waiting for your IE4 Platform

IE4 PUBLIC NEWSGROUP
Get peer support, trade ideas and find out what other
developers are doing with Internet Explorer 4.0. Microsoft
has set up a public newsgroup at
microsoft.public.inetexplorer.ie4.

Microsoft customers spoke loud and clear when they told us
they wanted Java support. In response, we are making a
comprehensive end-to-end investment to provide developers
the freedom to choose how they use Java in their
