Microsoft Announces Widespread Beta Distribution of Visual J++
Provides Industrial-Strength Development Environment to Java Programmers
Through New Site Builder Program
REDMOND, Wash. - July 15, 1996 - Microsoft Corp. today announced a
widespread beta program for its Microsoft? Visual J++? Java development
tool, Professional Edition. The software is designed to give
developers, both novices and experts, everything they need to quickly
and productively create applications that take full advantage of Java's
capabilities.
Visual J++ is also the first Java development tool that allows
programmers to extend their Java applications with components created in
a variety of other programming languages that support the ActiveX?
specification.
"We are extremely excited to see what developers think of Visual J++,"
said Bob Muglia, vice president, developer tools at Microsoft. "We've
focused all our experience from creating industrial-strength,
high-performance tools on making a no-compromise Java development tool.
Anyone who is working with Java owes it to themselves to try this
product."
Microsoft is bringing all the productivity of its award-winning
Developer Studio development environment to Java programming:
* Development wizards. Java Applet wizards help developers create
multithreaded cross-platform applets and applications quickly and
easily.
* Graphical debugger. Visual J++ offers the ability to debug applets in
the context of the browser, debug multiple applets on the same Web page,
and debug at the byte-code level.
* Design-time performance. Visual J++ source compiler provides a speed
of more than a million lines of code per minute.
* Comprehensive documentation. Easy-to-access online, as well as
Getting Started and Test Drive sections, help new Java programmers come
up to speed quickly.

Visual J++ also gives Java developers the option of extending their
programs with ActiveX Components. This extensibility allows Java
developers to take advantage of the power and productivity of thousands
of controls, tools and applications that currently support the ActiveX
specification.
The beta version of Microsoft Visual J++ is available now from Microsoft
over the Internet without charge (except the cost of connect time, if
any). To find out more information about
